The GEO Guide.

Eight chapters on how AI engines choose the brands they mention, what the evidence says actually moves those answers, and how to run GEO like a measurement discipline instead of a guessing game.

Definition

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving how often, and how favorably, AI engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity mention, cite and recommend a brand in their answers. Where SEO optimizes for a ranked list of links, GEO optimizes for a place inside the answer itself.

This guide is written to be checked. Every statistic links to its primary source, every tactic is labeled by the strength of its evidence, and the parts of GEO that are still folklore are called folklore. One more rule: we cite only neutral sources, meaning peer-reviewed research and the AI platforms themselves. No vendor marketing studies, our own included.

Be statistically Relevant.
